I enhanced the original portrait of John Brown from his later years with the white beard. I also digitized his signature and added it to the bottom of the flag.
Though he was a religious fanatic who used force and violence to fight American slavery - John and his followers ultimately had a very large hand in the ignition of the Civil War and the abolition of slavery.
John Brown died in 1859 and the 13th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified in 1865.
After John Brown's murder, he became the most popular figure in America.
